Aamer Khan is a Danish solo-artist who recently released his second album entitled Rounded. Khan plays down the center type of rock. It’s not hard rock; it’s not soft rock. It feels like it is somewhere in between. The songs are catchy, accessible and easy to appreciate.
I have to say this is his best release yet and is a step up from his first release especially in the production department. Things get going with “Steady Pace” which is indicative of the style throughout the remainder of the album. Khan keeps things relatively simple with bass, drums, guitar and vocals. There are a number of solid hooks as well as a number of fun crescendos.
“I Had A Day” is an inviting song with a good amount of hooks. The verse happens to be just as catchy as the chorus. “Do You Know Where You Are” melds clean reverb laced guitar and a smooth bass line making for one of the more relaxing songs in the batch.
“I'm On Fire” brings up the energy and is arguably the most single worthy song in the batch. The chorus is memorable and I thought the breakdown was especially slick sounding. “Enough” is the most intense song yet. The lead guitar is on fire and the song has a slightly funky feel.
Things smooth out with “Symmetry Is Broken” and gets a little introspective with “Full.” “Love” is a fun song with a ’70s feel to it. The vocal performance is loose and confident. Last but not least is “Be My Side” which is a dynamic song with a lounge-y verse and more rocking chorus.
The songs aren’t pushing any boundaries but are just well written songs that don't require repeated listens to understand. Khan seems to have more confidence in the studio and this release is proof of that. Take a listen.
