ALGORERHYTHM is a three-piece rock band based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. The band recently released a five-song EP called Not Dead Yet. They describe their sound as “a sing-along Rock opera that covers an array of influences in an easy-to-listen to package.”
They start with “The Wait'' which is a big rocker and sounds a bit like southern biker rock except a little more epic. The first thing that got my attention was the vocals. It’s almost as if the vocalist is changing characters or the affectation every verse. I wasn’t sure what to think of it but it reminded me of a play in some regards. The song drives and there is some solid playing. I thought the sort of lo-fi quality was fine for the song although the snare was a little boxy sounding to me.
“Emaline” starts as a rock song with an attitude. This definitely had a biker bar type attitude. That was the first thing that came to mind. It’s dark and fun but also pretty aggressive. The snare drum sounds a bit better here. It’s a pretty wild song that blossoms with vocal harmonies and guitar.
“Quiero Ir (Back to Mexico)” might be the highlight. The vibe here is more surf rock and spaghetti western at least at first. Once the verse comes in the BPM speeds up considerably and is more or less a fast paced punk song. “I Won’t” felt like a highlight to me. I was getting major Santana vibes on this song. It was also the catchiest song in the batch. “Double Tap” is a pretty straightforward rocker but also lo-fi.
This is a fun and cathartic EP. It’s music that thrives in a live setting and usually sounds best after a couple cold ones. If you can’t do that, do the next best thing and turn it up loud.
