In 2012, the band Badversion formed in London. They are an alternative rock band but don't box them into one genre. They also use post-grunge, punk and progressive elements with influences in blues, folk and rock. Badversion's music plays in over a dozen radio stations, mainly in California and Seattle. Badversion often gets compared to everyone from Pearl Jam to the Doors. However, Neil Young, Johnny Cash and Eric Burdon inspire their song writing.
The Badversion LP grabs listeners with haunting melodies but the alluring lyrics capture them. It's described as "album orientated:" all the tracks create a singular experience. The intense guitars and drums create shadowy sounds that suit this concept. But Badversion's tracks’ distinctive lyrical stories allow each song to function as its own entity.
The tracks "Walking Down That Road," "A.I," "Rich Man” and "Black" tell starkly different stories but with the same theme: things that weigh on us. “Walking Down That Road" represents a personal war that rages because of past shames. "A.I" uses the movie Blade Runner to show human destruction seen through the eyes of an outsider.
"Rich Man" plays on the saying "if I had a dollar for every..." In the song, the narrator claims that they'd be rich if they got paid every time they cursed their ex. "Black" accepts the darkness that exists in everyone. Each of these tracks chose different ways to look at the universal demons of lost love, sin and fear. Their steady guitar solos and intensely passionate vocals unite these tracks.
Badversion doesn't take music lightly. It creates stories that aren't fairytales or bubblegum pop, but ones that force exploration of the darkest corners of the soul. Badversion accomplishes challenging realities and reinvents timeless stories in their LP.
