Hailing form Melbourne, Australia Bring Me Therapists are a three piece band comprised of Clancy (Lead Vocals/Guitar) Amrith (Lead Guitar/Harmonies) and Mitch (Drums). They recently an impressive three song self-titled EP.
The whole EP is well under fifteen minutes but one thing is for certain is that the band rocks. This isn’t soft rock. This is heavy stuff that feels more aligned with bands like Queen Of The Stone and Alice In Chains. The music is fairly straight forward without many surprises but the band certainly delivers. Their timing is spot on while Clancy has a voice that was tailor made for rocking out.
First up is “Give Me Rain” which actually starts off with the sound of rain and sounds more like a song you would hear from Burial. However, once the guitar comes in you know this is going to go in a different direction. The guitar picking adds to the sound of melancholy. Clancy sings “so give me water/give me rain/there's nothing left here/only shame”. A little before the one minute mark the band starts to rock the hell out and adds effective vocal harmonies. Once the second verse rolls around the drums kick in and have to say the beat was just about perfect. Overall, the opener is one hell of a song.
“Ghosts” certainly has a distinct 90’s vibe. The vocals are memorable and transitions in time are quite effective in giving the song a unique ebb and flow. White noise drips from the guitars and the snare rolls sound like a shots from a machine gun.
“Get Me Down” is a solid closer that embraces a relatively monotone vocal performance during the verse and transitions into a dynamic chorus. Rim shots, inventive guitar riffs and the vocal performance create an ominous, dark atmosphere.
The band goes three for three with the songs and the only complaint is that it felt like an appetizer and left me wanting a little bit more. Don’t get me wrong I thought they were able to paint a foundation with these songs but would have loved to hear what else they might be capable of. Good stuff, I hope to hear a full length soon.
