Cerebral Tone aka Steve Fisher is an artist from Edmonds, Washington who recently released Path Of Stones. His music at its core revolves around guitar and vocals. That being said there are a number of different styles on this release.
The album starts with “Just Thinking of You” which was one of the highlights and also the rare song that contains percussion. There is an older almost classic rock feel. I was reminded of a stripped down song by Santana. The song is seductive and romantic. It’s a pretty straightforward love song in terms of the lyrics and the vibe is smooth on the verge of feeling trance-like.
Up next is “House In Paradise” which is noticeably a little more lo-fi. The percussive elements are gone and the song relies on strummed chords. Fisher really does sound quite good on vocals. He has an aesthetically pleasing voice.
I thought “Path Of Stones” was the highlight. The guitar work is exceptional. He delicately picks a pretty mesmerizing and beautiful melody. There is a bit of a “Dust in the Wind” vibe here but instead of being about death it’s about loneliness.
“Final Nesting Place” contains an intimate recording. This was also one of my favorites and again had an older vibe to me but this time The Eagles came to mind. “Hope” was a nice change of pace and a little more aligned with an artist like Cat Stevens at least in mood and lyrics. I was digging the lead guitar work on “Let it Go” which continues the upbeat mood. He has some more success with “In My Dreams” but I thought the phaser effect was a little too much while “You're not Bulletproof” is a heartfelt and warm song that embraces Americana.
Fisher is not only a talented singer and guitarist but knows how to write a killer song. Recommended.
