Trajectories Vol.3 is the latest from Daniel Masson. On his Bandcamp page it states, “Trajectories Series is inspired by the live mixes experiences over the past couple of years.” If you aren’t familiar with Masson he is a producer/artist who melds various genres of electronic music. His music could effortlessly blend into any loft party. At low volumes it won’t distract conversation but instead gives the room a low hum energy. If you turn it up a couple of db’s everyone will be dancing.
The songs on Trajectories Vol.3 are really the ultimate blend of chill out music, headphone music and something apt for the club. It’s really about how do you want to approach the song. The album gets going with “Inside.” You are greeted with filtered pads and subdued female vocals. In less than a minute a kick drum starts to thud and soon after a sub bass enters into the mix as well. You can close your eyes and quickly get lost in the hypnotic blend of elements, The energy picks with with more percussive elements and synth that although not always present carries the main melody.
“Surprising Crossroads” is funky yet completely understated. There is no need to get wild. The song glides seamlessly as vocal samples are used as any other element would be. At points the song feels subterranean and dark. Not too far off from Burial.
“Synchronized Journey” provides another example of Masson’s ability to create calm, tranquil soundscapes with just enough energy to get you to move your body. “Rencontres” could very well be the highlight. Masson’s production is next level here. This song deserves a pair of headphones. The way he splices up vocal samples, layers in percussive elements and is able to lay framework that feels organic is pretty incredible. He closes with “Mustached Dance” where the guitar has a little bit more spotlight. There are too many elements to really narrow it to one focal point once the song get to about the midway point. As the song progresses it becomes the biggest and most festive groove on the set.
Trajectories Vol.3 is an album where there is absolutely no need to skip tracks. It works much better as one fluid piece. Masson has done it again. Don’t miss out.
