3.9 out of 5

By Ted Rogen

Dave Britt is a musician from Columbia, SC who recently released Burning In The Afterglow. It’s a well produced rock/pop album with some great songs. I enjoyed the overall aesthetic which felt warm and comforting in some way. You don’t get a whole lot of high frequencies here. The album contains ten songs and that feels just about the perfect length.

He opens with “West Coast” which has a bit of a reggae vibe. It’s those upward strummed chords. The song has frivolous lyrics about sunshine and being drunk. I’m not sure if Britt was poking fun or what with these lyrics.

Up next is “Burning Afterglow” which is a solid song that opens up with a nice slice of Americana. The instrumentation falls into the background with reverb and delay. I really liked how it almost felt like one instrument.

I think the highlight on the album may be “Restless Heart.” This is just a great song. I was reminded of the band War on Drugs. The chorus and the pre-chorus are just money. It’s an addictively catchy song. Britt does does some solid rocking out on “Is This Living? While “Once You’re Gone” is a meditative, contemplative song that reaches some impressive heights.

Another highlight was “Ride High Again” which was the most danceable song on the album. No it’s not EDM but definitely has a good beat and groove you can bop your head to. He closes with a subdued rocker entitled “Turn And Run.”

Burning In The Afterglow is a good album all the way through with some really great songs. “Restless Heart” is one that I will be listening to again. Overall the album feels cohesive yet varied. Britt really does a great job making the album feel like a ride. Recommended.
