Death Saddle Syndicate are a band that just formed about a year ago. The band released a three song self-titled EP. They play straight forward rock that seems to have a smidge of influence from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The music is no frills rock can hear influence from bands like Alice in Chains and Led Zeppelin.
Apparently the three songs are a DIY effort. The guitarist knew what he was doing. It sounds way better than most home recordings. They opener with “You Whisper Loud.” Suffice it to say if you like rock you will enjoy this song. You can hear a bit of Layne Staley in the vocals especially the way the vocalist curls the end of words. At an higher octave he sounds closer to a metal singer from the 80’s. There definitely seems to be some prog rock influence as the band has solid instrumental breakdown section. Up next is “Darkest Times” which embraces a slower BPM and dynamics. Zeppelin seems to be a influence on this track. I really enjoyed the song. The soaring vocal harmonies are money in the bank. I thought they really captured a sweet 70’s drum sound as well. They close with “Down and Out” which gets back in 90’s territory to my ears. The band embraces grunge with palm muted guitar riffs. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains came to mind on this song. It’s another killer track. Don’t miss the excellent instrumental section around three and a half minutes in Death Saddle Syndicate may not be bringing anything new to the table in 2017 but they rock and can write a song. A good recording combined with good delivery is usually a winning combination. This EP is short and sweet and definitely worth your time,
