Dirtyfrank is a collaboration of Ash Jewers (vocals), Andrew Smith (guitar/vocals), Luke Walters (guitar), Morris Ewings (bass guitar), and Steven Alexander (cajon/vocals). They formed in 2013 and just recently released their debut EP entitled Bones
Jewers vocals style reminded me much of Eddy Vedder at times . He has a deep uncovering sound to his voice that has a soul revealing element to it. Lyrics like " Come down where the water is warm" have an almost devilish element to it that you cannot help but feel mischievous. The guitar riffs are creamy and smooth taken from an otherwise bumpy song that needed to be smoothed out. Guitars trickle over the wounded sound of the vocalist and his heart. On the title track he sings "Come dream with me and sleep with me". The music is definitely led mostly with the vocals while the rest of the band supports him. That being said said the lead guitar work is exceptional. Perhaps it is the fact that main vocalist Ash Jeweler almost died twice before writing this album, that you can feel the deep sorrow in each song. The self titled Bones is just that- the very things that broke yet Ash prevailed. “Entrust” contains beautiful guitar picking that is tranquil and calming. It spews a feeling of warmth and contains some similarities to Cat stevens. The song is nostalgic and revolves around a troubled relationship. This EP is a great wintery selection urging you to delve into deeper realms of unknown territory. It is powerful, rhythmic and moving. It brings to the surface elements of curiosity and strength where our weaknesses lie. Sometimes music allows us to feel vulnerabilities and from those vulnerabilities we are able to find our strength. I highly recommend it.
