Doug Ferony is a prolific artist who has been pleasing audiences across the country with his renditions of America's Greatest Songs for the last twenty-five years. He has over a hundred recordings some of which were up for Grammy consideration. His latest album is entitled Let the Good Times Roll.
Let the Good Times Roll contains music that you don’t hear very often these days. However in the late ’40s and ’50s this music was considered pop. The music on here has a jazzy, big band type of vibe that is comparable to Frank Sinatra. Ferony is the real deal. His songs feel authentic and would have widely accepted if they came out decades ago. It also doesn't hurt that the production is top notch. Every element in the mix is audible from the ride cymbal to the horn. Of course Ferony’s vocals are the focal point. His delivery is smooth, nuanced, yet dynamic. He opens with “I’ve Got the World On A String” which is an upbeat, lively song. Definitely a good choice for an opener which gets you in a jovial mood. The good times continue with “Let The Good Times Roll.” At this point I was just thinking about rolling dice in a Las Vegas casino. “I’ve Got You Under my Skin” and “Blue Moon” are lighter, jazzy affairs while “It happened in Monterey” continues to establish the vibe. Let the Good Times Roll has a number of classics such as “New York, New York” on there. Out of the twelve songs it hard to pick out a highlight because all the songs sound good to my ears and are also so closely related. I think that’s a good thing if you appreciate this type of music. If you are into big band and jazz music you really can’t go wrong with Ferony. This music is a staple of American pastime and Ferony does it justice. Recommended.
