Lifelong musician Drew Harris is twenty-two years old and has already been a part of several bands. His most recent project, what he hopes to be the first of many solo albums, is entitled Resolve., a five-track record that was completely written, performed, engineered, mixed, produced and mastered by Drew himself in his basement and college dorm room.
A quiet, echo-laced guitar riff forms the introduction of the album’s title track before plunging quickly into a punk metal rock anthem, complete with crashing cymbals, power chords on screaming guitars, and soaring vocals and harmonies that tie the rest of the instrumentation together. Even as harsh, aggressive chords and percussion hammer out the rhythms of the song, Harris’ voice provides a harmonious, yet equally aggressive, tone to the song. In “Imaginary Enemies.” haunting piano chords combine with vocoder-infused vocals to create a beautiful, ambient atmosphere. This soundscape is suddenly transformed into a hard-hitting metal-influenced rock scene, where it stays for the rest of the song. Unfettered vocals continue to highlight Harris’ emotive qualities in “21 Grams.” as he holds back nothing in both his singing and playing. The progressive rock style is continually explored in “Glass Eyes.” with pulsing bass riffs, synthesizer sounds and flying guitar chords and notes that coalesce into a very full, formidable sound. The track takes an unexpected turn about halfway through as a slower, more reflective section takes hold and gradually grows until the conclusion of the tune. The album comes to a close with “Unconscious Flashbacks.” as Drew Harris features his falsetto range alongside his already-far-reaching range and the loud, energetic instrumentation that aid in carrying the emotion of the track. In Resolve., Drew Harris has shown without a doubt that he is capable himself of writing, performing and producing quality music that is both exciting and enjoyable for listeners.
