Patrick King (vocals/guitar/bass), Ryan Kramer (guitar/bass) and Eric Van Berg (drums) are Electric Adventure. They released Black which is a very influenced sounding rock album that had no problem revisiting tropes that have been around since the mid ’70s. Black is far from the most original sounding EP to come out in 2017 but the songs are fun and easy to appreciate if nothing else than for the sense of nostalgia.
The open with what sounds like it could have come out in the late ’70s or early ’80s. There were a number of bands that this sound is based off of. Everything from the vocals to the cymbal ride had a flavor that came out decades ago. The band rocks and the song “All Night” is definitely a backyard BBQ burner. Up next is “Look The Other Way” which is more chill and mellow at least during the verse. It has a bit of a Pink Floyd vibe to it. Once the band gets to the chorus they rock out with conventional power chords. The band rocks out hardest on “Pieces.” The breakdown is badass and so are the vocal harmonies and guitar solo. “KOD” is where the band makes a stylistic shift and goes into clear ’80s metal territory. All the cliches are there including the vocal inflection where he claims to be the “King of Darkness.” I have never seen a picture of the band but have been reviewing music long enough to bet that this is the type of music the band was raised on. I could be wrong but that is usually the case. Truth be told there is nothing here that advances the genres they are playing. It’s more or a homage and a tip of the hat. On that note the homage does the styles justice and will be a nice addition to your playlist that contains bands from around the mid ’70s to mid ’80s.
