Electric Clowns are a four-piece post punk band from Edinburgh, Scotland. They’ve been together for some time, but Been Caught Posing is their first EP. Their mantra is you’ve gotta get your stuff out there and shoot for the mainstream from the get go. I agree 100%. They’ve put in hard work and captured a new audience on their road of small to big shows, and it’s time for the next step. Been Caught Posing has received numerous praise for its 70’s New York sound. And who doesn’t appreciate snarky song titles? At least they’re not long and pretentious a la Panic at the Disco circa 2005. The first thing you notice is the stellar sounding production. Everything from the drums, too the guitars and vocals sound top notch.
“The Scene’s Been Built For You” has great bounce to this beat and a happy driving guitar line and perfectly executed effects and mix. Solid build up and strumming throughout, the vocals send the signal and the bass rolls in code. I really enjoyed this track and might just download it right now.
While I was listening to "Sneaky Little Cliques Took My Baby Away" I noticed the lead singer sounded like Paul Banks from Interpol when he sings in a lower octave. That being said the singer has a lot more range. A little more then half way through the song he strains his voice it fit the increasing energy of the song. The song is short but effective.
The Strokes most likely gave some influence to “Trampagne Beautiful.” Definitely another chorus-driven track that walks around a few chords like it doesn’t to like what it sees. “Indigo Always” plays the part of sonic relief, much softer and less abrasively layered. What can I say about “Don’t Play With Glass Dolls”…LOOK OUT. That beginning will take you off guard!
The album ends with one of the highlights on the EP called "Dont Play With Glass Dolls". It's a pretty straightforward rock song but is also quite addictive.
It’s a great way to close the album. Sizzling quick singles on the snare and fast riffing set up each chapter of fiery groove.
