FlyByWire is a band from Australia and they have just released their latest album Lost and Found. The band started off as a cover band for nearly ten years before they decided to start recording original music to share with their audience. Through those ten years of working together, the band has conjured many tracks, many of which they have lost and have managed to find again just in time to record them for this album. The music that FlyByWire emits can be classified as alternative rock with a bit of a funky edge.
Every song on the album has its own vibe and style that creates a unique world of feeling and understanding. The track “Footprints” is a bit slow and mellow; it starts off with a gentle guitar riff and some very compelling and ethereal vocals. But as the song progresses the song does the same until is becomes a song full of life and strong melodies. The lyrics of this song are also very deep and have a beautiful illustration to imagine; “drawn softly in the sand are the footprints of a man we haven’t seen for years, for so long now he has roamed from his family and his home and now he reappears.” The rest of the song continues to tell the story of this mysterious man; the song really gets catchy as it progresses.
The track “City Days” reminds me of songs produced by bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers or Muse. This is a really upbeat song and has got quite the soul to keep you vibing. The running guitar and the drums make the time just melt away while listening to the track. The chorus is backed up by the rough deep repetitions of guitar chords and hard drum patterns, and then without warning there is a soft sweet breakdown that gives a different, softer view of the matter at hand; “I feel it I need it… and I want you and I love you, never be afraid.” When the song was over, I was compelled to just hit replay because the catchy guitar and lyrics make you want to experience it all over again.
Even though the band is creating music within such a generic genre, there is character and a dynamic within the sound that can only be achieved with bands that have played together for a number of years. The quality of the sound in this album is up to par; each instrument and the vocals on every track are all independent yet have a cohesive swing that creates successful and pleasing music. This is a great all around album and can be tuned to fit many different occasions.
