Fobilloria is an alternative band that formed in 2010 in Yoshkar-Ola, Russia and recently released SUNSETSOUL. The band aligns with ‘90s alternative rock although a slice of ‘80s does tend to show up. The majority of the songs are easy to enjoy upon the first listen and if you haven’t been living in a cave for the last twenty-five years these songs shouldn’t be too foreign to you.

The recording quality is solid and production is on point. Everything is clear in the mix and I thought the guitar tone was just about perfect for most of the record.

The album starts with “‘V’” which is more or less an instrumental intro. It goes between sort of rocking and a constant build. The band decided to throw in a couple electronic effects, which felt largely ornamental. “Lament Regrets” is where the band gets going. The band starts rocking out and the modulated synth was a unique aspect to the song. That ‘80s vibe I was referring to earlier is present in the song, especially during the verse. Regardless the verse is pretty dang catchy even though I had no idea what was being said.

“Believe” is more or less a no frills rock song that has a high energy the entire time while “Closer” is a clear highlight with catchy vocals and some killer lead guitar. Another song which stuck out to me was “Soulmates” which contains soaring vocals and a chorus that sound inspirational and hopeful. The band continues to display some skill on songs like “After Midnight” and “Let Me Be.”

The songs on SUNSETSOUL are well written but might have fared better coming out about ten years ago. The style has came and mutated from the American scene. That being said good music will also resonate with people and that's what you have here.
