Supervoid Evidence by Gondofares, which is led by a member of the French duo Mandrac, released his first solo album in December 2014. Didier Chanot, aka Gondofares, took a break from all of his musical projects to spend many sleepless nights crafting his own LP. And it shines. The album opens up with "Somebody You Are Not," an electronic heavy jam. It’s not too upbeat though, as you can still nod your head to it, while floating along to the harmonies of and layers of keys. As the album continues, it goes back and forth from faster, more upbeat tracks to slower, relaxing songs. It has a wide range of tempos and feels, but keeps the electronic elements prevalent throughout. The title track sounds like something straight out of a club, in a good way, while the next song "Your Bed" completely switches gears into a piano driven ballad. These two tracks back-to-back show the diversity of Gondofares and how he takes you on a ride. I love when an artist can take the risks of having a wide range of feel to their songs and not staying to one specific style, being boxed in and having an entire album sound the same. "Us Two" is a personal favorite of mine. It has the right level of beat with great vocals and sounds like it comes out of the movie 'Drive.' Chanot's harmonies shine through, as it sounds like a choir of singers, all him. Overall, this is a great debut solo album. It has the perfect amount of back and forth give of deep, driving jams to slow tempo feels. The fact that Chanot did the full production (recording, mixing, and mastering) on this album in his own studio adds to the credibility of the release. I look forward to more.
