Robert Rodriguez Del Toro aka Hello Sunrise is an artist from California who recently released Hello Sunrise. This is a bedroom recording and the results are not only impressive from a musical perspective but from a production perspective as well.
This is a catchy EP and my first thoughts were that it bares resemblance to Animal Collective and The Beach Boys. You can hear this mainly in the vocals whether it's a lead or harmonies. The EP is bright, cheerful and has some pop melodies that will keep you coming back for more. The EP starts with “Sunrise” which is just a great song overall. It sounds like the morning sunrise slowly emerging from the horizon. The instrumentation which revolves around bass, percussion and guitar serves the vocal harmonies. His lyrics reinforce the mood of the music. He sings, “Dance around my head / There’s no need to dread / You’ll be alright.” Up next is “Sad Song” which is another addictive pop song. The song really does sound like a near perfect combination of Animal Collective and The Beach Boys. A synth buzzes, a bass provides the foundation and percussion flutters.. “Ideal Future” showcases some experimentation. The song features an atmospheric section towards the middle which features reverb laced harmonies. Like the previous song the lyrics reinforce the general vibe of the music. He sings, “And I'll always be around / To make you all those sounds / That you like.” If there is a slightly melancholy song it would be “Water.” His lead vocal is more prominent here and the traces of Brian Wilson are strong as well. He closes with the guitar heavy “Alright” which showcases some minor rocking out. The influences are strong on this EP but it doesn't matter because the music is so well written and composed. Great stuff overall and l’m looking forward to more.
