Incasinato is a five-piece funk band from New York that recently released a seven-song EP entitled The EP. Right off the bat you get the feeling that this is the type of band you would want to see live. The music is fun, funky and easy on the ears. It's the type of tunes you want to hear on a Friday night after tipping back a few beers.
The first song “The Answers” begins with a swirl of guitar, organs and funky grooves. I thought the verse was solid but the chorus just popped. The vocalist sings, "I can live without all the answers" which is emotionally resonant and interpretative but you get the feeling he is referring to it in an existential way. Either way the song contains a beefy instrumental section and the lead guitarist is more or less soloing constantly. Next up is "Havens" which carries a similar funky dance vibe as the first song. Incasinato at points reminded me of Talking Heads and to a lesser extent Pink Floyd. They slow things down with the sentimental and nostalgic "Love You Two.".It works well and sounds good. The piano is especially effective on this song. They get back into a funky yet cosmic groove with "Boobie Browsing" which is pretty much a playground for the lead guitarist. The song contains some excellent slap bass action, intense lead and leans towards general jam band tendencies. It's a completely instrumental song that didn't need vocals to make it feel complete. The highlight is arguably "This Is It" which contains infectious vocal melodies. The vocals soar when the vocalist sings, "this is it." They close with a sparse song entitled "While I'm Gone" which revolves around acoustic guitar, soft pads and vocals. The EP is quite diverse and the band is no one trick pony. It's consistently strong and has a good flow. Recommended.
