By Ted Rogen

Katy Galloway is a sixteen-year old singer/songwriter from Cheshire, England who recently released her first EP entitled Games. Although she isn't even out of high school yet she is no newcomer to music. She has been singing and playing the flute since she was seven years old and starting playing guitar and writing when she was fourteen. Let’s be honest at sixteen years old you probably haven’t found your musical influences.

It wasn’t till I was about twenty that I finally found the music that really resonated with me and would ultimately have an effect on what kind of music I made. Games is a humble beginning of a young artist that displays a boatload of potential who may one day become a more realized artist as her style and taste become more refined and matures.

The songs on Games won’t appeal to many people outside of Galloway’s age range. If you see any middle-aged men blasting Games out of their truck I would be more than surprised. The songs are pretty straight acoustic pop. First up is “Games” which revolves around piano, drums, bass and of course her vocals. Galloway sings about games people play in relationships and that's about all you will get with people who around her age. The lyrics are simplistic and about what you would expect from a pop song. Her vocal delivery is solid on this song and immediately establishes that she has a good voice.

The next song “I’ll Never Leave You” is a sweet pop song. Galloway does get into a little bit of trouble when she attempts higher notes but it is forgivable. “Average” was the highlight of the EP. The background vocal harmonies were a nice touch. Galloway attempts and partially succeeds at singing at a faster pace. She closes with the sparse “Memories.”

As I mentioned Games will most likely be the humble beginnings of an artist who will unequivocally change as her tastes mature and she has more life experience. When Galloway is twenty-eight and she on her seventh album she can look back at this with nostalgia.
