You want to hear an album with excellent production then pick up Words by KEELAN. This five- song EP is the definition of a crisp, professional recording. It’s a treat listening to music that is created with “standard” instrumentation such as guitar, bass and drums but sounds huge when coming through your speakers. The music KEELAN creates can be considered pop/rock and is not unlike music you might hear from artists such as U2, Snow Patrol and Coldplay. Whether you are a fan of this type of music or not, you can't deny that it spews with emotion.

The first track “Words” starts with guitars that sound as if they are ready to strike. Also a steady drumbeat and bass all support his vocals. As the song progresses the intensity increases as he layers in vocal harmonies and more guitar parts. I was impressed by the fact that KEELAN didn't go overboard.  He could have easily went overly grand but instead found a good balance.

“Call Me” starts with the lyrics, “Why didn’t you call me, You said you'd call me tonight, And I just wanted to hear the sound of your voice.” KEELAN plays a warm organ in combination with the guitars, bass and drums on this song. The vocal melody got stuck in my head and it might be something you catch yourself singing in the shower if you aren't careful.

“Mansions Of Philosophy” is a bit of a breather that contains melancholy and reflection while “Oh, Ireland” is quite triumphant and epic and choses to do so at a BPM that creates a slow, swaying energy. KEELAN closes with “So Long, Move On,” which might make you shed a tear. It’s a good song although maybe a bit too melancholy for a closer.

Hipsters may call this music too commercial sounding but in my opinion these songs are well written and have a strong impact. Words is a solid five-song EP with a ubiquitous appeal.
