Kit Lightning and the Revelators is a experimental rock band from “down under,” and brings their audiences a fresh take on surf rock, and has underlying tones of folk and a tinge of classic Spanish style. But the most succinct summary I can conjure up about the sound of this band is southern folk pirate rock. You’ll just have to give it a listen to understand.
The first song on the album SHE WILL COME, “Tell My Lady” shows us the unique style behind the members of this band. There is a repetition of “tell my lady I will come” and this creates a compelling sound that is perfect for dancing to. The second song “Jenny Darlin” has a swash buckling pirate vibe to it but at the same time I see Clint Eastwood riding away into the dusty sunset.
“Vamos Senorita” has an eerie persona to it that envelops the listener in a wave of passion and mystery. The style of the guitar paired with the militant-like sound of the vocalist illustrates a scene of malice and perhaps some dark love. “Take me now, … lord I cry,” while listening I envision an evil version of a Wild Wild West movie and towards the end of the song there is sounds of a woman screaming which really solidifies this vision.
On SHE WILL COME there are sounds that illustrate a world of cowboys and Spanish conquistadors all set upon the times of the Gold Rush in the rugged and dry West. This is a unique vibe coming from a band in Australia. Yet Kit Lightning is able to successfully create this distinct sound that is unlike any other. The production of the album could be better yet all the sounds come through regardless and anybody can immerse themselves in the wild world that is created in She Will Come.
