Lanier B released Have You Heard This One? in mid-July of 2018. A collection of electronic tacks meant to inspire listeners, it also carries an attitude of relaxing alongside the dance rhythms of deep house projects. In terms of genre, it’s hard to classify as just one. While the tracks all complement each other nicely, the album rarely stays in one place for too long. A unique experience for listeners. Fans of electronic music, dance music, hip-hop, funk, jazz or any other rhythmic genre should spend a proper amount of time getting to know the album.
“Make Me Overflow” is placed at the end of Have You Heard This One? A simple song on the surface, the repetition can be misleading. The nuance between the repeated lines is where the reward lies. Flowing synth lines that cascade over the drums are filtered and panned to move the sound around the listener. Headphones are a must. Get the best pair you can find and enjoy the full stereo world of the track. “Want More” is the opening track which is a hard hitting electronic track that sounds like an outtake from Prodigy’s The Fat of the Land album. Hard hitting, aggressive and up beat, it gives the listener a jolt of energy before embarking on the full journey of the album. It is described as a dance album, however that’s not the end of the description. Incorporating elements of electronica, soul, dancehall, hip-hop, funk and even smooth jazz Have You Heard This One? is all over the map between these genres to create a one-of-a-kind listening experience. Some tracks are more in one vein than the others, but all of the tracks blend genres to create a mellow feeling for the listener. Undeniably a wild ride, fans of any of these genres will surely enjoy the strange places that Lanier B can take them to. Formulated as a record to shed light on Lanier B’s state of mind, with the goal of making something that listeners can dance, vibe, and grow with, it’s safe to say mission accomplished.
