Leah Capelle released a self-titled EP last year and is back with a three-song EP entitled Joshua. The songs to my ears are palatable pop songs that are very well produced. I think the appeal will veer towards a very general demographic . Suffice it to say the three songs are ones that you can imagine being played on the radio.
Up first is the single “Joshua." The guitars are clean and melodic but I felt the bass really drove the energy. Capelle’s vocals are easy to appreciate. She has a great voice and can easily hit every note proving she has an impressive range. "Joshua" comes equipped with a blaring guitar solo and predictable breakdown section. She repeats the lines "I will be free" which leads into a huge, powerful crescendo. There is no denying this is a song that grabs your attention. Up next is "Out Now" which is more atmospheric than the opener. The song is just straight up pop that could easily be played on the FM airwaves. It's also a dynamic song where the chorus feels quite anthemic. Capelle's last song on the EP is entitled "Who I Am.” It was my personal favorite track which was the most traditional rocker of the batch with a very slight country twang. The sing is catchy and is arguably Capelle’s best vocal performance. That being said all the vocal performances are exceptional. These three songs were a predictable follow up effort to her self-titled EP. She seems to be sticking to a pop formula that proves itself in the mainstream. I do wish there was a bit more experimentation and out of the box thinking. Capelle has a boatload of talent and I wish her the best of luck. I'm not convinced this is the best angle for her sound but it is still easy to enjoy.
