Lovetheft are located in Los Angeles, CA consisting of two members who have been friends since they were kids. They released a three song EP entitled Scorn EP.
The band's simultaneously sounds like they come from two decades. There is some overlapping between 80’s rock and the more neo-futuristic vibe some bands were trying to create about twenty years ago to my ears. The theme of the EP is nothing new but also relatable. He explains “The tracks on Scorn were inspired by a difficult romantic relationship that ended poorly”.
I literally got a little shocked when I pressed play for the first song “Stereotypical”. It starts just an intensely as any dynamic high in the song and almost feels overpowered by some type of modulation effect like chorus or flanger that is present throughout the song. The song does have a lot of energy, solid pacing and has a catchy chorus.
You get a little breathing room with “Start Again” which starts with guitar and vocals. That doesn't last long as the song propels to something a lot more intense when the guitars enters into the mix. The song is a roller coaster of dynamics as it proceeds.
“Destroy Me” definitely as a tinge of Linkin Park minus the rapping. The song is a nihilistic fueled catharsis that attempts to leave the past behind. It’s arguably the most single worthy track on the EP
Lovetheft have a sound with these three songs that I would say you don't hear too often this day and age. There is a lot happening that may have been even more appreciated ten to fifteen years ago but it’s more or less the wild west these days when it comes to the music marketplace. There is an audience for the music they play. Check it out.
