pausemc may not need an introduction as he has been receiving a good amount of attention after his national tour for his album No Small Order. In addition to his songs being used in video games and TV he has been climbing CMJ's Hip Hop Chart.

It's obvious that pausemc wanted to build off the momentum he had and released a five track EP entitled Blue. After taking a listen I can say the production is sick. It’s full of inventive beats and transitions that make him competitive with some of the prominent artists in hip-hop.

The EP opens with “Wait Until I Drop” which i first thought was going to be straight reggae. Once the filter is taken off after the first ten seconds or so the beat hits hard. The song is smooth and chill. I was bobbing my head for most of the song and think you would be to. The hook is strong on this song.

Next up was the highlight entitled “Nowhere to Hide (Feat. Kung Fu Vampire)”. The beat and music sounds huge and thematic on this song. The lyrics are fantastic. He rhymes monogamy and pornography but my favorite line was “My health is a pelican sitting on a red elephant”. The female vocal and samples are a also nice touch which benefits the song.

“Build Up” is another solid track with a narrative. It revolves around  topics such as music as an escape from violence and about a turbulent relationship he had with his friend. The music and beat is exceptional just like on the other songs. “Roller Coaster” is a dynamic song about heartbreak and a relationship that needs a lot of repair while the closer “Escape” has some intense synths and breakdowns that are jagged and visceral. There are a number of transitions that are memorable on this song and enjoyed the electric guitar on this song,

Blue is a seamless, compact EP which delivers the good. Each song brings a little something different and pausmc is able to keep things interesting throughout. It goes by fast but as has a lot of replay value. I can only see better things to come if pausemc continues with this trajectory.
