Will Glasby aka Pigeon Chest is looking for a band. I know this because he says it right there on his Bandcamp page. I don't think that should be too hard considering his EP Box Is Tamed contains a number of solid rock songs.
I started listening to the EP and was immediately reminded of The Pixies. The song “Shake” utilizes a number of moves that reminded me of the album Surfer Rosa from the bass breakdown to the way he bends the guitars. Don’t get me wrong the song is impressive in its own right but the similarities are undeniable. Luckily, the similarities aren't as apparent on some of the other songs. I was impressed by his technical skills as a drummer and a guitarist on “First In, Last Out.” He plays in the pocket and can wail on the guitar. He sings, “Wash your hands but it won't make up for this mess Try harder, make like powder.” “Damn It, Joshua” is a solid jam that has a hint of Pavement. I liked the song except the vocal sections where it sounds like someone stabbed him in the gut. He has some success with “Caught Sideways” but I thought the highlight was “She's An Elephant.” There is a hint of Weezer but the perhaps his finest moment is on the chorus. It’s really catchy and sung well. Glasby is a dynamic singer. Some of his style and inflection seemed to work better than others. I think better production as well could have smoothed some of that more aggressive style which could have used a little help. Glasby is a good songwriter and I think working with other people is a smart way to go. Working with other people can often balance out your sound bringing in a vast array of influence. Overall, this is a solid start. Hopefully someone reading this can reach out to him and start a band.
