The initial offering from Planet Caravan comprised of Tom Bowden (drums), Tyler Molitor (lead guitar), Will Taylor (bass) and Bill Robinson (vocals/ rhythm guitar) come in the form of three no frills style rock songs. The EP entitled Space Is The Place is an extremely straightforward rock release that revolves around distortion, power chords and guitar. There is no denying what these guys are bringing to the table and it shouldn’t take you long it figure out if you want to join the party.
The opener “Et In Arcadia Ego” is an attitude driven rock song that tips its hat to classic rock. It’s an easy song to appreciate if you have any affinity towards early ‘70s rock. The second song “The Peakk” trades the distortion for delay. Robison really has a good rock voice. He sounds like he is emotionally broken yet yearning for change during the chorus. He isn’t afraid to be dynamic and it pays off. The psychedelic slight reggae like song feels like a loose jam in the essence of a song like “The End” by The Doors. The band closes with “Space Is The Place” which is a fast paced, five-minute-plus instrumental prog rock song. All you really need to know is that there is a good amount of Free Bird like guitar solos, The song is pretty much that while trying to maintain an intense groove. Space Is The Place is a little sparse to really get an idea of what these guys are going for. The three songs have proclivities towards ‘70s rock but as far as what they injecting as their own style isn’t there yet. These songs are a decent start but the band will have to do some digging to find what separates them from everyone else. Hopefully, the band can find their X-factor with their future releases.
