After Party Collection
self-released; 2015

3.9 out of 5

By Megan Gazzo

QQQ’s new album After Party Collection is otherworldly. It definitely has a space age, Aphex twin like sound. Tons of trigger pads and creepy little space gun sounds. There is an altered high pitch voice chorus that sounds like the girl from Die Antwoord. The sounds of these songs are a true reminder that we are just a tiny little planet, spinning in space in a giant universe.

The lyrics on “Doggy” are simple and repeated over and over. “Cut that shit deep, Watch it bleed, Toss it to my dog, It’s time to feed. I’m getting stupid, You know my style, I’m getting fuck wet sucked, yeah.” The lyrics are definitely a bit on the creepy side but I think it is important to creep people out sometimes. Music is often about love or loss. This music isn’t even human like those emotions entail.

“Your Way” has a recording of some ultra white bread man talking“ Hello Girls and Boys, today we are going to make music, Happy music and sad music.” I am pretty sure it is Mr. Rogers saying it, but QQQ altered his voice to go in and out toying with his range. The sounds in this song are just that, oscillating in and out of happy and sad music. I want to call this music psychedelic space trip hop. The song then moves into an old timey piano solo for its outro.

The next track up “The Ebullient QQQ” brings us back to the darker side of the music. The lyrics are hilarious. It simply repeats “ My dick all hard and shit Give a fuck give a fuck without it.” I guess this is the soundtrack to getting horny and a raging boner. Sounds deviant, sexual and unruly. The primal desire of having a hard on can be felt and it is a bit uncomfortable. They seem to be just pulling some unruly disturbing stuff on their listeners. I think this would be a good sample to pick up for producers for sure though due to its pure hilarity.

The album ends on the song City Boyz . This song is epic because it has one line of lyrics. That line is, “ I don’t wanna fight.” I like this. The song is called City Boyz but there are girls saying the lyric line.  This reminds me of drunk guys at the bars in the cities on weekends that just want to go home with some hot chick and do it and they can’t get it so they get in fights with other guys. It seems a bit debaucherous.  But sometimes sex is like health insurance, those that need it the most just can’t seem to get it, and it makes them angry. Hopefully those men can hear this song and give a second thought about fighting though.

This album is creative and original. Never heard anything much like it. I like its space sounds and weird lyrics. It stimulates my brain in a new region I didn’t know existed. There are lots of laughs in store too due to its silliness. I enjoyed it and will probably share it with some friends so that we can have a good laugh at the lyrics together.
