Since 2010 Zachy Walden (vocals/guitars/programming) and Nick Petro (guitars/vocals] have been playing music together but it was only recently that they formed RCRDHOUSE and released their self-titled three song EP RCRDHOUSE. The duo added Chris Wall (drums) who is now an official member.
RCRDHOUSE is a very contemporary sounding pop/dance EP. There is no denying that this music tries to reach as large as demographic as possible. The music that is upbeat and dance worthy sounds not too far off from bands like Daft Punk, Passion Pit and Cut Copy but has more of a mainstream FM radio type feel. The element that really gives their music a mainstream, radio ready feel is the vocals. Something in their vocal delivery makes the music feel like it could be blasting out the crappy speakers of your local Starbucks or playing in a club where everyone wants to be beautiful and seen.
The first song “AFTER YOU” is the most commercial, radio ready song of the three. It starts with the entire song going through a filter that cuts a good amount of the frequencies off. The filter like effect is simply used as a mechanism to catapult you into the hook. The hook revolves around a drone like synth, electronic drums and guitar. The verse has a mellow, relaxed energy compared to the hook.
All in all “AFTER YOU” is a solid tune. The production is well done, as are the vocal performances. There really isn't much to complain about if you can get down with this style of music. “I WANNA KNOW” is a certified club thumper. The song contains a constant upbeat energy with enough build up and hooks to keep party kids chugging Red Bulls and making out with strangers. The last track “THE SCENIC ROUTE” was a personal favorite and had a Michael Jackson/Justin Timberlake vibe. Men and women alike will probably get down with this song.
At the end of the day you can’t knock RCRDHOUSE for not knowing what type of music they want to make. On that note they pull it off and should attract their intended audience with these songs.
