Brighton, UK based Scare Taxi are Boag and Tara. The band is releasing their debut album entitled Death By Music.
Best described as ‘trash rock,’ there is a little bit of everything in this album. Traces of ‘80s and ‘90s era style music project a retro-inspired sound while the rock-based anthems go on to inject a revelry-filled energy that places Scare Taxi on a platform all their own.
Death By Music opens with “Great Things On My Mind” that contains unhindered heavy guitar riffs that pulverizes the start of this track. The drumming beat is bouncy and buoyant. A great jaunty tune pervades. The song contains an undulating sound rooted in the punk rock spirit. The guitars are also clad in reverb. There is a happening energy. The choruses are loud and outrageous.
Following is “For Our Sisters For Our Brothers,” where rollicking guitars rev up in the start of this track. The drums are adamant and a force of nature. The background vocals are swayed in with a bit of dissonance that causes a disconcerting air. The vocals are riotous and filled with unwavering energy. They overlap creating off-kilter layers.
On “Fly,” a demanding drumming backbeat paves this song. With high-end energy, the vocals are executed with relish. A wall of guitars adds in a bit of fervor. You can tell the band is not taking themselves seriously with such lines like, “There was a fly in my eye and it’s making me itch,” adding in a comical flair.
On the closer “Love’n’Loathe’n’Peace’n’Anger,” a tick-tock cadence sounds off on the start of this track. It keeps time to this lullaby-like song. The track has a soft lilting sound that is both soothing and placating unlike the riled-up ball of energy of the previous tracks. This song is quieter as a reticence rapidly unfolds. Eventually more demanding rhythms add a more charged pulse to the next half of the track. The beat picks up in pace. The buildup is momentous and worth the wait.
A happening energy pervades on these raucous tracks. Filled with big choruses and loud riffs, these songs are riveting with the punk rock spirit. With a high-tailed amped vibe, listeners will find themselves pumped after listening to these set of revved songs.
The guitars strut in and make a pronounced presence in the record. The drums are not only heavy duty, they are a requisite to the jaunty rhythms. Together paired with the on-point vocals, you got a riled-up concoction tailored with the band’s reinforced personality. The results are something to behold.
