Alex Bravy (drums), Matsi Giorgadze (guitar/vocals), Igor "Rogi" Ilyinsky (bass/vocals/rap) and Michael "Miguel" Innes (guitar/vocals) are Silent Room. Their debut album Alive Again contains seven songs.
First things first. The production and recording quality are exceptional. Everything from the low end to the reverb sounds great coming out of your speakers. I was seriously in awe of the production itself. Now let's get to the music. I was never a serious Phish fan but could recognize their sound. After spending some time with the album I thought of Phish a number of times. Something between the structure of the songs, the vocal delivery made me think of the band. That being said other bands came to mind as well. Pink Floyd as well a number of classic rock bands. Anyway you look at it this music has a jam band type quality that a certain niche will eat up. The band opens with “Fragile > Turning” which immediately demonstrates the band's ability. It is a song full of funky bass lines, lots of lead guitar and good crunchy grooves. The song also happens to have a good amount of words something that you don’t always get with jam bands. He sings, “Now, she was pushin’ up those daisies all around us all. Vaya con Dios my old friend!" “Sunny Day Rainstorm” has some of the most overt Phish-esque qualities to my ears while “The Devil Sings the Blues” has some addictive vocal melodies. “Humble Ego” is the song that has the ’70s Pink Floyd vibe. It was also a highlight. “Sand & Stone” contains some of that slap bass action. My personal favorite track was “Turning Reprise.” I loved the vocals on this song. Allison K sounded fantastic. They should use her as much as possible for future recordings. I think you will love this album if you already enjoy bands like Phish, Moe & Umphrey's McGee. Recommended.
