In Des Moines, IA, Slush-Maker started his rhythmic journey. His passion for music became more than a hobby when he relocated to Phoenix, AZ. While in college, Slush-Maker produced the first half of Entangled. Then years later, he completed it. Categorizing Entangled presents a challenge. Though it mainly consists of techno-electronic sounds, it also fuses other beats and styles.
On Entangled, the only track that lacks sound variety is “Old Style.” The song is mainly one continuous tune. The rest of the album leaps and races to reach musical enlightenment. Sometimes this creates harmonious tones. But other times it produces chaos, like in the track “Awake.”
Reflection and politics echo in the background of Entangled. Slush-Maker makes no declaration of his political or personal views. Nevertheless, they subtly appear in a few tracks, through voice-over speeches. “String Love” does some of the best incorporation of speeches. They’re mostly reflexive. The track also mixes in some meditative piano sounds. “String Love” is one of the most focused songs on Entangled. “Slush Maker” leaves out voice-overs. It strictly relies on beats and nature sounds. The camera noises, horror movie-type beats and birds’ chirping generates “Slush Maker’s” doomsday vibe. It’s a very cool track.
None of the songs on Entangled drown on too long. This problem plagues many similar albums. However, Slush-Maker’s vision and story for Entangled is unclear. Only slight clues are presented to interpret the meanings of the tracks. Hopefully over time, Slush-Marker’s ideas become more apparent to his listeners. Despite the mystery of the album, Entangled still remains pleasant to the ears.
