Dominic Young (vocals/guitar), Edwin Betancur (drums), Mike Santucci (bass) and Eldon Lopes (guitar) are Stolen Skies. The band recently released their demo quality self-titled EP Stolen Skies. It is a rock EP that veers towards grunge with some unexpected deviation.
There is a lot to be desired in the recording quality department. I'm not going to list all the issues but the main one was the vocals. The lead vocals were too low in the mix on certain songs. I thought the singer had a good voice and would have liked to hear some more clarity. They open with "Outlaws" which is mostly a grunge song revolving around basic distorted power chords. The lead guitars have an ’80s metal vibe to them. I couldn't make out any of the lyrics besides "I will never let you go.” Up next is "Day Long Past" which sounds like a completely different band. It's reminded of a boy band type love ballad but way more tolerable. At this point I had no idea what to expect from the band. "Wake Me Up" is straightforward rock song with punk tendencies. It's arguably the highlight and has some catchy vocal melodies. They close with another ballad that contains distorted power chords. I thought there was a good mix of genres but was a little confused about what their signature sound was. The band's sound is uneven across these four songs. I think the most important thing for them is to not only to have their recordings sound better but similar. One song is softer, the other you can barely the vocals. It's sporadic and I think working with a producer is something they need to consider. Overal, there is some talent here and am looking to forward to hearing more.
