Hailing from Brisbane Trent Lord and Josh Entwistle make up the duo Stop Go. They recently released a three-song EP entitled The Final Line, which combines rap, pop and electronic music. The music is endearing in its own unique way and by the end has you rooting for these guys. The way they rap is carefree and doesn't take itself too seriously more so the delivery rather than the lyrics themselves. Take for example the first song “Deep Thoughts (feat. Eddie Salazar),” which combines a poppy, upbeat electronic composition with contemplative lyrics. The vocalist sings; “the emptiness of everyone here / is slowly starting to sink in / i don't wanna end up / hitting rock bottom / my life washed away / drowned with everyone's problems / i need to get away / start a new day.” I enjoyed the dichotomy as the song often feels like a burst of pure joy and excitement.
The same dichotomy exists on “Solitary” although not as drastically as on the first song. The lyrics describe an existential crisis that someone is having. The vocalist sings; “I speak the truth / you want the lies / deep inside your words hurt me and I cry / to wash away the pain / suicides on my mind / I look to the sky / angels call my name.” The catchiest part of the song if not the EP is the end where he sings “I know, that you know / that I know, you know / I’m a ghost.”
They close the EP with “Bad Romance,” which is another solid song that follows the same formula as the first two songs. The song combines synths, piano, bass and drums to create a whirlwind of sounds for them to rap and sing over.
The Final Line has its flaws but also showcases good production, inventive lyrics as well as some infectious parts. All in all there isn't much material here but it is a good start.
