Miles&Miles is The Arcadeans’ latest EP release. The band claims this release has modern and classic rock influences. After spending some time on the EP I feel like the latter is much more prominent. The aesthetics, delivery and instrumental aspects felt more aligned with 1969 than 2019 when considering all the factors.

The band opens with “Winners Jump” which feels like straightforward Americana classic rock. It’s one of those songs that makes me think of taking a ride on a motorcycle across Route 66. There’s just enough attitude and grit mixed with some fun as well. I think it was a strong start.

Next up is “Shadows in the Dark” which starts off atmospheric and pensive with piano and pads. This is a very ’70s type of move where the band comes in after the ambient intro. The band is acoustic sounding at first and then when the distortion hits it goes into classic rock mode. There’s even some organ on the second verse. The tone is very sort of serious on the verse and the chorus does provide an anthemic, catchy chorus that provides some levity.

“Amber Queen” felt like a highlight. The song is again almost straight ’70s classic rock sounding from the language to the delivery. I especially loved the slight jazzy and funky approach on the second verse which reminded me of David Bowie.

Last up is “Miles & Miles” and is perhaps the most ’70s inspired with the ever classic double lead guitar. The song is upbeat and fun. I was reminded of Spinal Tap, Queen and just an amalgamation of legendary acts.

I felt this was a straightforward EP with tunes that will obviously resonant most with fans of rock. There is a good ebb and flow and I felt the EP was cohesive and accessible. Take a listen.
