I’m not sure what there is not to like about The Missing Inc. and their release albuMEN. I love a band that doesn't have to take themselves too seriously and when I was reading their bio I literally couldn’t stop laughing. On their Facebook page they say they are fans of Primus, System of a Down and Queens of the Stone Age. That’s so much on the nose I don’t think much more of this review is necessary although there is a bit of Spinal Tap in there as well.
“KING” is the opener. It opens with some sweet snare rolls and once that bass line came in I was thinking Les Claypool would be proud. At any rate the vocalist does sound a bit like Josh Homme and the guitars sound similar to something Queens of the Stone Age might play. It’s a great song, that’s well delivered and a blast to turn up loud.
The band continue with “DOOM (IN YOUR WOMB)” which actually sounded like a tip of the hat to Faith No More. There are some absolutely wicked parts on this song like right around a minute-and-a half in where the song feels menacing.
That Spinal Tap reference seems on point when listening to “MEDIEVAL TIMES.” The whole song feels tongue-in-cheek in the best way possible. There are hyperbolic vocals and knights of the realm. That sort of fantastic imagery is often hilarious.
I love the band's humor but they still absolutely rip things up on “LICENSE TO KILL,” “KINGDOM OF DINOSAURS” and “DO IT TO IT.” The band gets funky and fun on “D'S OR F'S” not unlike Ween. They continue with raucous riffs on “NEED FOR SPEED” and “FSOB '' which is some kind of Tool and Primus hybrid. They close with “HYDE” which is just as wacky as it is fun.
I really enjoyed this album for the laughs as well as the riffs. It seemed like music that would be a blast to see live. Recommended.
