The recent EP ..in your constellations by The Out comprised of Adam (drums), Kenz (guitar), Zink (bass) and Ace (guitar/vocals) is a brief introduction to the band's sound. That sound revolves around genres like rock, alternative and pop punk.
After spending some time with the album, It’s safe to say the band has a fun and easy to appreciate sound with some technical ability to boot. I was impressed with the technical ability all around but the drummer (Adam) really shines on these songs keeping the energy going the whole time. They start with “What It Feels Like” and the band doesn’t waste any time picking up the adrenaline levels. The song is at a fast BPM as the bass plays just about as many notes as the lead guitars. Once the verse hit the instrumentation simmers down a bit to give the vocalist some room to fit in his words. He sings, “Every time we meet, you make me feel like i'm the only one in the room minutes stopping on a dime, you're twisting in my side.” “Van Go!” has a classic pop-punk vibe especially with the addictive guitar riff the song opens with. The song is immediately catchy and arguably the most single worthy song of the batch. The groove is great. “What Does This Switch Do?” veers ever so slightly from pop-punk and feels more alternative in some ways. The constant pressure from the drums is intense as the lyrics paint a fairly standard look at lost love and breakups. “Forever Pretender” isn’t that far off from the previous song. It took me a number of spins to separate the vocal melodies. The Out isn’t reinventing the wheel at this point. They can write a catchy song but fall into a category of wait and see. I think the band still needs to develop a more keen signature sound in order to separate from like minded bands. They built a good foundation for them to build off of.
