Vulgarithm is a project from the UK. I don’t know much about the artist but Share If You Agree is the recent release. This is an intense set of songs. It feels like all the songs worked out for a full year and then took steroids.
“Wiper” is the first track and an intro. All these disparate sounds come fading in and it sounds like a robot voice is saying welcome. This is ominous and a haunting beginning to the release. That sense of apprehension continues on “Piece” which starts with what sounds like city sirens and additional noises layering on top.
The music starts and we are greeted with metronome tight digital percussion. It sounds industrial and as I mentioned previously like it just took steroids. The vocals come into the mix and the industrial fades for a bit before the NIN style guitar enters. Suffice it to say I was floored and a little exhausted.
Up next is “Fake” which hits hard with electric distorted guitar and non stop digital percussion. The song certainly seems to be about the current times we live in and I found myself focusing in on the lyrics.
“One Character Left” is the next level in terms of intensity. I will say at times it was a little too much even for me. That being said the breakdowns were unique and I thought this was a very cool song. The dynamics were crazy.
“Sex Riff” had some serious NIN vibes mixed with some hard rock while “Hat In The Ring” is a killer track and one of the highlights. “Hat In The Ring” has arguably the best hook on the release. “Still Have Doubts” felt like a fitting closer. It’s way more chill than any other track. I would say it’s even serene.
This is a highly original sounding release. It should come with a warning because of how intense it is, so here’s mine. Now take a listen.
